A question commonly asked: “Is my child too old to spank?”
The older our kids get the more difficult it is to exercise discipline.
Concerning this culturally sensitive topic, I don’t think it is a matter of age.
Instead, I believe it is a matter of when is spanking appropriate or when is it effective.
The truth of parenting is that no two children have the same temperament or maturity level. In short, each child will need to be parented differently.
So the question remains… A not so simple answer to this is, discernment. Only you, as a parent, can make this kind of decision and that decision must come from discerning your child and your circumstances.
This beckons another question, where does discernment come from? Discernment must come from knowing our Lord and being familiar with what Scripture says about the parent/child relationship.
No where in Scripture is spanking, at any age when appropriately administered by a loving parent, ever condemned.
