Consider all God allowed his faithful children in Scripture to endure.
To our finite minds, He can sometimes appear cruel–even sadistic. So, is God cruel, how can we make sense of this?
While God may appear cruel, in every account there is a story of His greater redemptive purposes.
Just look at the cross as a preeminent example.
How often do we cheat our kids out of a greater redemptive purpose by bailing them out of the seemingly cruel yet natural consequences of their rebellious or derelict actions?
If you allow your teen to endure what seems to hurt for the moment, you may very well save them from permanent harm and a much greater pain.
This is not to mention the character growth they’ll gain and the incredible amount of respect that you’ll earn. When you do this, you are actually exercising a greater compassion.
