In today’s culture; I rarely, if ever, suggest to the families of Shepherds Hill Academy that they should enroll their child in a public school.
I actually heard a well-respected, secular, parenting expert say that discipline is all about teaching and education and had nothing to do with punishment, threats or training.
Training? Abusive punishment, no; idle threats, no.
But, how could one find any fault in Scripture’s mandate to train our kids? Kids will be trained by someone or something regardless. This is just one way worldly wisdom seduces us from parenting God’s way.
But, I want to discuss one practical example of training our kids that is an example of godly parenting.
Why Homeschooling is a Godly Way to Train Our Kids
Yes, homeschooled kids are often stereotyped as kids who are “socially stunted.” This is not a general fact. And it’s certainly no secret as to who’s getting the best education and training out of the deal.
Besides, if “socially stunted” means my child doesn’t know all the latest gangster-rap lyrics; all the R-rated movie plots; how to properly roll a joint; bully someone on Facebook, or get someone to sleep with them before marriage; then, as far as I’m concerned, being socially stunted is a blessing!
It’s about time Christian parents take their cues from the proper point of reference. If you don’t use Scripture and what used to be called common sense to raise your child, then the socially-aware and politically-correct lemmings of our culture will train them for you.
