Our guest today helps us understand why our kid’s generation may be the “dumbest generation.”
More than likely, you have heard one of our many interviews with today’s guest, Mark Bauerlein, here on this blog or on our broadcast License to Parent. Mark is the author of The Dumbest Generation and is a Professor of English at Emory University.
Has Technology Made us Dumb
Louis Brail invented a communication tool for the blind at age 15. John Quincy Adams was the assistant to the ambassador of Russia when he was just 14 years old. It is amazing to think that at age 33 Thomas Jefferson had penned the Declaration of Independence. Contrast these examples to today’s males. At age 33 many find it an accomplishment to get to the next level of the video game Grand Theft Auto. How can parents take these historical figures and raise the bar for their teen? Mark and I discuss the following:
- Are teens mediocre in life
- Why books are so important
- What is the true status of today’s youth
- Have science and technology truly replaced God
- Are our teens truly dumb
