Is entertainment really just a harmless form of amusement?
I can tell you that too many parents seem to think that it is. In fact, there are harmful effects of entertainment.
In my experience working with troubled teenagers at Shepherd’s Hill Academy, I get to observe and interact with kids around the clock for a full year, every year.
I can tell you with authority, there is no greater force influencing our kids to rebel against their parents and the Christian faith than much of today’s entertainment–music in particular.
Kids will give up sex and drugs long before giving up their rock and roll or rap.
The key is to offer them other options in music and entertainment that aren’t harmful to their hearts, minds, and spirits.
And it doesn’t have to have a Christian label on it. All truth is God’s truth and all beauty is God’s beauty. You might be surprised to find the sacred in the secular.
