Is it just me, or are small children allowed to roam way too freely today?
Today’s parents often feel they’re thwarting Junior’s creativity if they don’t allow him to explore the four corners of the church sanctuary during a sermon; investigate the cabinets in your home; or, discover every item on every shelf at every store.
Proverbs 29: 15 says, “The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.”
In this verse, the rod is likely a metaphor for discipline in general. But, the rest of the verse seems to imply we should exercise wise boundaries with our kids—teaching them respect for other people’s stuff and for venues that require order.
