Not everything about digital technology is bad. In fact, it can be a good thing and has become an efficient tool in advancing the kingdom of God.
However, technology is also a large contributing factor to today’s teen’s hang ups. Sadly, technology and media have effected our ability to process thought and reality. If parents are not careful, and families do not reign in the use of these digital devices, America may be headed for a disaster.
Has Digital Technology Invaded My Home?
So, how can parents gauge whether or not their homes are too dependent on technology and media?
This is a valid question that is often asked. To provide a proper answer, consider asking yourself the following questions:
- How much time does my child spend on a some form of media device?
- Does he need headphones to go from point A to point B?
- Does he spend more time interacting with friends via social media than he does in real life?
- Does your child have access to any media device in his personal bedroom?
How to Prevent the Invasion: Follow the TMI method
In today’s podcast our guests provide parents with a simple too. If followed and used proactively, this tool could begin turning the tide of over-used media and technology within your home.
T = Trust. In today’s wishy-washy culture, many kids are skeptical of virtually any authority figure in their lives. This is why developing trust and an authentic relationship is of the utmost important.
M = Manage. As the parent, be sure you remain a consistent positive example by appropriately managing your own media habits.
I = Implement. Ensure that your family has a clearly established set of media and technology boundaries. For some quick insight on how to get technology boundaries developed you can read 10 Tips of Technology Use in Your Home.
