You might know what the ideal family is supposed to look like—simply by virtue of the times you grew up in.
1) The Poly Family
Because of our rapidly changing times, even our Christian kids are now believing that two moms; two dads; or even a “poly family” is just as legitimate as one man, one woman and some kids.
In our postmodern world, terms like “family” and “marriage” are being grossly redefined.
A decade or two ago gay marriage would have been thought of as an oxymoron—as were poly families just a year or two ago.
These slippery slopes are producing exactly what was feared—a society where “anything goes.”
So, please discuss with your children the importance of a proper view of family. Our future depends on it.
2) Blended Families
High divorce rates are now spawning large numbers of blended families. As we mess with and complicate God’s ecosystem, family problems become more and more complicated too.
Scripture gives us many examples of blended family complexities. But, it also shows us God’s mercy and ability to extract beauty from ashes.
One tip for the success of blended families is for husbands and wives to make it clear to their kids that they are united; which means, next to God, their first commitment is to each other.
This means, if a step-parent lays down the law the biological parent backs up the step-parent. In time, this will breed love, security and respect in all the kids.
