A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Magee.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to remove distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Being without electricity and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork abilities, giving teens good reason to consider their responsibility to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After residents consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
