We are a year-long, professionally staffed, therapeutic boarding school, offering a more permanent solution for teens who are struggling. Troubled teen boot camps strive to reform to reform teen behavior through harsh military-style screaming and drills. These programs last only a short time, usually less than 90 days, similar to a summer camp. With their short-term model, boot camps often do not achieve lasting results. A teenager might be able to pretend to comply just long enough to finish the program, then go back to his or her former behavior at home in Augusta, Georgia.
Harsh Military-Style Treatment in Boot Camps May Not Be the Best Option for Some Troubled Teens
Boot camps for troubled teens set up firm discipline, inflexible schedules, and intense physical training to instill self-discipline and respect for authority. Most are set up similar to military boot camps, with teens living in barracks underneath the supervision of drill instructors and having chores and physical exercise to accomplish every day. This form of boot camp uses intense experiences and shouting, intended to scare teens out of their bad behavior. They typically serve as a last-chance measure for an angry, oppositional teenager who is moving toward serious criminal behavior.
Boot camps make no effort to deal with the origin of the problem. They do not use therapy and will not identify emotional causes. For this reason, boot camps are not a good choice for a teen displaying depression, anxiety, self-harm, poor self-esteem, learning disabilities, and other similar behaviors. In these instances, the severe environment can result in more damage than good.
Sometimes Boot Camps are a First Step, Before the Teen Enters a Therapeutic Boarding School
Sometimes, a boot camp followed by a therapeutic boarding school or possibly a residential treatment facility can achieve better results. For a lot of adolescents, beginning with a therapeutic boarding school is a better option to help with the causes behind the behavior.
Unlike Boot Camps, Shepherd’s Hill Academy in Georgia Provides Long-Term Results
